Sound & Season is rooted on the coast of North Carolina, where salt air moves through the pines and the seasons reveal themselves in quiet, shifting ways. Life here is shaped by small rituals. Early light over the marsh, the hum of summer, the soft grit of sand underfoot. These moments become the sensory memory that guides our work.
Each candle and object is crafted in small batches, inspired by the landscapes that surround us: the marsh at low tide, cedar groves after rain, fog settling over the water, the working rhythm of the waterfront. These impressions blend with botanical notes and natural materials to create goods that feel grounding, familiar, and deeply tied to place.
Sound & Season is an invitation to slow down. To light a flame and return to yourself. To honor the places that shape you and the rituals that carry you through each season.
Our Story
I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, where quiet mornings, woodsmoke, and candlelight shaped my sense of calm. The coast was always calling, and when we discovered DownEast in 2021, it felt like all the places I loved converging into one.
I began making candles as gifts for family and friends and to create something cleaner for my home and my family, and the science of it pulled me in , wax behavior, wick performance, fragrance chemistry. Today, every Sound & Season candle is built from a fragrance blend I’ve created myself, crafted to burn cleanly and capture a true sense of place.

Our Process
Every candle begins long before wax meets heat. It starts with the landscapes that shape us. The marsh at low tide, cedar after rain, fog settling over the water, the soft hush of early morning light. These impressions guide the way each fragrance is built.
Fragrance Formulation
All of our scents are created in‑house, blended from scratch rather than poured from pre‑made oils. Each formula is layered note by note, tested, adjusted, and refined until it feels like a real place not a product. This is slow work, rooted in memory, landscape, and the beauty of noticing.
Wax & Wicks
We use a premium coconut–apricot wax and organic soy blend for its clean burn and soft, luminous glow. Every candle is wicked by hand, tested repeatedly, and adjusted for the vessel, fragrance, and burn profile. The science matters — heat dynamics, melt pool behavior, flame stability — all of it shapes the final experience.
Small‑Batch Craft
Each candle is poured in small batches in our DownEast studio. Wax is heated gently, cooled slowly, and poured with intention. As the candles cure, the fragrance settles into the wax like tidewater finding its level. Nothing is rushed. Everything is done with care.
